Frequently Asked Questions
Ruined and Worn Out Textiles Collection Trial
Below are FAQs related to the Ruined and Worn Out Textiles Collection Trial. These have been developed to help answer any potential questions that may arise from the trial and its campaign.
Where can I find a list of the clothing banks that accept worn out clothing?
For the trial we have ‘Worn Out, Wear Again’ banks located at 18 Tesco sites, and 2 HWRC (Household Waste Recycling Centre) sites, in the East of England.
You can find a list of the trial banks at NRT — Salvation Army Trading Company (satcol.org)

I want my donations to be reused rather than recycled. How will I know if my donations will go on to be reused.
We still have our standard clothing banks on site that you can donate to. These will go to our Processing Centre for sorting. We offer donations to our charity first and some will go to our charity shops for resale to raise money for our charity. Any we cannot sell in the UK will go to our trusted partners who will reuse these in charity shops in other parts of the world where demand for quality Western fashion is high.
I donated my damaged textiles into the wrong bank, can this be swapped to the correct bank?
As part of the trial, we are monitoring donations to the standard ‘Wear again’ banks and the trial ‘Worn out’ banks. This means we can divert donations to the reuse or recycling routes at our Processing Centre if, for example, donations have been placed in the wrong bank.
Can we donate to Salvation Army shops as part of this trial?
This trial is only being operated via the 20 trial clothing bank sites in the East of England. You can, however, still donate direct to our charity shops or our other clothing banks across the UK where the donations will be sorted.
You can find a list of shops and donation centres at https://salvationarmytrading.org.uk/
Can we donate unwearable or damaged textiles to the Tesco In-store Take Back Scheme?
This trial is only being operated via the 20 trial clothing bank sites at car parks in Tesco stores in the East of England. You can, however, still donate to the Tesco In-store Take Back Scheme and these will be collected by Salvation Army and sorted at our Processing Centre.
