Recycle with Michael is empowering students and planting trees in partnership with National Forest

Salvation Army Trading Company (SATCoL), the trading arm of The Salvation Army, is empowering pupils to take action and help sustain our planet with the Recycle with Michael scheme, exclusively available to schools and youth organisations. The national programme encourages young people to drive donations of clothing, handbags and shoes and divert more items away from disposal.

The scheme is designed to educate the importance of reducing waste. Textiles is the UK's fastest growing household waste stream. By reusing and recycling textiles we can greatly reduce the amount we send to landfill and give unwanted items a new lease of life. As the largest charity owned textiles collector in the UK, each year SATCoL diverts over 250 million items to good uses, including over 67,000 tonnes of textiles.

.

Working nationally with schools throughout the UK, the trading arm of The Salvation Army have collaborated with the National Forest as part of this scheme to offer schools the opportunity to plant trees with the proceeds. Schools can choose from native broadleaf species (Oak, Silver Birch, Wild Cherry, Hornbeam, Lime, Hazel etc) at a National Forest site in either Leicestershire, Derbyshire or Staffordshire, as new woodland sites are publically accessible, students may visit the woodland where their tree has been planted.

Not only will students be actively working to combat climate change by taking part, but also the resale of these goods will help to raise vital funds for charity. The Salvation Army provide specialist support for survivors and potential victims of modern slavery, shelter for those experiencing homelessness and so much more.

Recycle with Michael is helping to create lasting change and transform lives.
