Longest-serving colleagues present record-breaking £11.2m cheque to The Salvation Army

Salvation Army Trading Company Ltd (SATCoL) has announced a record-breaking donation to The Salvation Army. Trevor Caffull, Managing Director of SATCoL, made the announcement at the company’s annual conference at the Hilton Birmingham Metropole Hotel on 10 and 11th June.

Harry McCafferty, Linda Taylor and John Webb received Lifetime Achievement Awards for their 30 years’ service at the event and were invited to present the cheque for over £11.2m to the Territorial Leader of The Salvation Army in the United Kingdom and Republic of Ireland, Commissioner Paul Main.

SATCoL raises funds for The Salvation Army primarily through its reuse and recycling schemes. In the past year the company has grown its clothing collection  network to nearly 9,000 locations across the UK, and, with the help of over 5,000 volunteers, operates 250 charity shops and donation centres nationwide.

SATCoL has also invested heavily in world-leading innovations including FibersortTM, the UK’s only automatic sorting process that accurately identifies and sorts second-hand garments by fibre type, and Project Re:claimTM, the world’s first commercial-scale polyester recycling plant designed to recycle end-of-life textiles.

The conference theme was ‘Dare to Care…for our colleagues’, reflecting the values and culture of the organisation which has invested in many new initiatives aiming to deliver the very best for its colleagues, customers and communities.

SATCoL Managing Director, Trevor Caffull, commented:

“Many people continue to struggle with the ongoing impact of the cost-of-living crisis. More and more people are turning to The Salvation Army for support. These funds will help people in need across communities in the UK and it is thanks to the generosity of members of the public, our corporate partners who continue to donate to our charity, and our customers who shop with us, that we are able to support in this way.”

Trevor Caffull added: “We simply could not raise these funds without the hard work and commitment of our colleagues. Linda, Harry and John all started working for us in 1994 and are true ambassadors for our charity. We are extremely grateful for our 5,000-strong volunteers, all our colleagues and supporters.”

SATCoL, which is a wholly-owned subsidiary of its parent charity, exists to ‘enable mission and provide resources to help the work of The Salvation Army’. In the past twelve years alone, SATCoL has raised over £100m for The Salvation Army.
